Adventure District Features Fall Events
OKLAHOMA CITY – Visit Oklahoma City’s Adventure District this fall to find a variety of entertainment opportunities for those of all ages.
With six unique attractions located at the crossroads of I-35 and I-44, Oklahoma City’s Adventure District is one of Oklahoma’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting more than 3 million people each year.
The Oklahoma City Zoo’s Haunt the Zoo for Halloween, one of the state’s largest Halloween celebrations, begins Oct. 26 and continues through Halloween from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each night. Haunt the Zoo for Halloween provides fun for the whole family and offers trick-or-treaters six nights to collect goodies at a variety of themed booths in the midst of hundreds of jack-o-lanterns. Admission per child is $7 at the gate or $6 in advance and free for adults.
Take in traditional Western culture this fall at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum with the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association 11th Annual Exhibition beginning Sept. 26. See the best saddlemaking, bit and spur making, silversmithing and rawhide braiding artistry from the exclusive membership of the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association. The exhibition continues through Dec. 6.
Experience the thrill of live horse racing while the Thoroughbreds are running at Remington Park Racetrack and Casino. Be sure to catch live racing with post times at 6:30 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays, and 1:30 p.m. Sundays. On Oct. 11 be there for the 21st running of the Oklahoma Derby featuring a hat contest, face-painting, moon bounces and many more fun activities for the whole family. Thoroughbred racing season continues through Dec. 14.
Don’t miss the first-ever high-definition presentation of The Wizard of Oz at Cinemark Tinseltown USA Sept. 23. NCM Fathom, Warner Home Video and Turner Classic Movies present "The Wizard of Oz 70th Anniversary Hi-Def Event" at 7 p.m. which will include archival interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and rare musical outtakes. The fall season also brings the excitement of The Metropolitan Opera to the big screen at Tinseltown. Enjoy live transmissions of The Met’s entire 2009-2010 season featuring nine performances in HD. Head to ASA National Softball Hall of Fame Complex this fall where they will host the Hooters Championship Series Oct. 1-4 and the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Associations State Tournaments for fastpitch softball in all classifications of play Oct. 8-10 and Oct. 15-17. Observe National Fire Prevention Week Oct. 4-10 by visiting the Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum and Memorial. Celebrating 40 years, the museum is the only one of its kind in the United States that is owned and operated by firefighters. The museum houses a remarkable collection of antique fire apparatus dating back to the mid-1700s including items from the oldest fire company in the nation commanded by Benjamin Franklin.
