ASKINS ON ADVENTURE DISTRICT: Good for the State and Local Economy
OKLAHOMA CITY – Lieutenant Governor Jari Askins toured Oklahoma City’s
Adventure District Monday. Her visit included stops at each of the
seven tourism attractions within the district.
“It is wonderful to see how a concentration of tourism resources can
boost the state’s economy while providing jobs and education to local
residents,” said Askins.
The tour was arranged to familiarize the new Lt. Gov. with the seven
keystone attractions within the Adventure District. Her visit included
stops at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, National
Softball Hall of Fame, Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum, Oklahoma
City Zoo and Botanical Garden, Omniplex Science Museum, Cinemark
Tinseltown USA Theatre and Remington Park Racing Casino.
“It is encouraging to have someone at the highest level understand the
economic importance of tourism,” said Mark Loehrs, president of the
Adventure District board of directors. “Her experience in state
government and the role she plays in the tourism industry is crucial to
the continued success of venues like the Adventure District.”
Since the inception of Oklahoma City’s Adventure District, the
attractions have welcomed more than 2.5 million visitors each year and
employ more than one thousand individuals.
