Kick off the summer in Oklahoma Citys Adventure District

Posted on 05/09/2007

OKLAHOMA CITY- The Adventure District is home to seven exhilarating attractions with events and exhibitions to suit everyone.  Chuck wagon cooking, tree house giveaways and fun at the zoo are only a few things happening in the Adventure District this summer season.

Bring the family to enjoy a weekend packed with music, fun and delicious chuck wagon cooking from all over Texas and Oklahoma during the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s annual Chuck Wagon Gathering and Children’s Cowboy Festival.  This Memorial Day weekend festival has everything from covered wagon rides to rope making and many more action-packed activities for the kiddos.  For more information about the museum or its annual festival, visit www.nationalcowboymuseum.org.

Jump into the wilderness with Wild Tuesdays Story Time Safaris at the Oklahoma City Zoo every Tuesday for the month of June.  Enjoy listening to The Adventures of Riley storybook series, meeting a Zookeeper and receiving a free juice drink.  Story time should last no longer than 20 minutes each session and is a great way for kids to enjoy the summer.  For more information on Wild Tuesdays, check out www.okczoo.com.

After exploring with Riley, swing over to Omniplex Science Museum to check out the newest exhibit and Centennial Project, GadgetTrees, for a chance to win a tree house!  From June 1 to July 31, visit GadgetTrees to take a quiz about tree houses. Each correct answer is an entry into a drawing for the big prize!  For further information about the giveaway, visit www.omniplex.org.

It’s a homerun for the Women’s College World Series.  Come out to the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium for the opening ceremonies extravaganza on May 29 to welcome the teams playing in the World Series and watch country star Terri Clark perform.  Be thrilled with the endless talent displayed by all eight teams in the series, which kicks off May 31.  During the tournament, view the Hall of Fame’s museum and see memorabilia from players, coaches and fans that contributed to the sport’s past. For further information about the World Series, visit www.asasoftball.com.

Saddle up for the American Quarter Horse races at Remington Park Racing Casino, Oklahoma’s only major horseracing facility and casino attraction.  Partake in one of the 650 state-of-the-art gaming machines or enjoy fine dining at Silks Restaurant or Eclipse Restaurant, which both offer an outstanding view of the track.  Live Quarter Horse racing ends June 3, so hurry on out to Remington Park.

After the races, sit back and relax at Cinemark Tinseltown USA Theatre where you can see films about comic motorcyclists, suspenseful intuition and the family of the future.  Get away and enjoy Hollywood’s latest hits such as Wild Hogs, Disturbia and Meet the Robinsons, movies to suit all members of a family.

Follow the flame to the Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum.  The museum contains a remarkable collection of antique fire apparatus dating back to the mid-1700’s and the first fire station built in Oklahoma Territory in 1864.  The museum is one of the most outstanding in the nation devoted entirely to the preservation of historic fire equipment.
