Local spring break ideas in Oklahoma City's Adventure District
OKLAHOMA CITY - The countdown to spring break has begun, and many
Oklahomans are searching for entertainment during the days out of
school.
For those people looking to stay nearby, Oklahoma City’s Adventure
District has a variety of options to entertain spring breakers.
With 1,900 animals spread out over 110 acres, the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden
is a full-day adventure. Visitors enjoy exploring animal exhibits such
as Oklahoma Trails, the Great EscApe and Cat Forest/Lion Overlook.
From March 17 to 23, the zoo offers special animal enrichment feedings
during Munch Madness. A schedule posted at the zoo informs visitors
which animals will be munching on special goodies from their keepers.
Destination Space at Science Museum Oklahoma
launches visitors into the world of space exploration. From space
suits and toolboxes to human physiology and personal hygiene, visitors
learn what it takes to be an astronaut.
Also on display at Science Museum Oklahoma is the special exhibit, “Our
Body: The Universe Within.” Comprised of actual human bodies and
organs that have been preserved, the exhibit offers a rare opportunity
to study the inner workings of the human body.
Special exhibits abound at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
With historic rodeo photography, decoratively beaded gloves and
American Indian paintings, Exhibitions West features three exhibits,
“The Rodeo Photography of Louise Serpa,” “Real Western Wear: Beaded
Gauntlets from the William P. Healey Collection,” and “Stomp Dance and
Stickball: Southeastern Imagery from the Silberman Collection.”
These exhibits complement the permanent galleries at the National
Cowboy Museum, which include a turn of the century cattle town, fine
art, artifacts and more.
Spring breakers hoping to catch a few movies head to Cinemark Tinseltown USA.
From “Horton Hears a Who!” to “College Road Trip,” Tinseltown features
the latest family-friendly movies on the big screen. With 20 theaters
featuring stadium seating and state-of-the-art sound equipment, guests
of all ages enjoy movies at Tinseltown.
The excitement of live Quarter Horse racing is back at Remington Park Racing Casino every
Thursday through Sunday until June 1. When they’re not watching the
horses race, visitors try their luck in Remington Park’s casino.
Rounding out spring break, the USA Softball Women’s National Team plays four games at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex.
Monday, March 24, Team USA will play Oklahoma State University,
followed by the University of Oklahoma on March 25 and DePaul and
Virginia Tech on March 26.
