Oklahoma City’s Adventure District features exciting summer events

OKLAHOMA CITY – This summer join Oklahoma City’s Adventure District in fun activities for the entire family. Some of the most popular tourist attractions in Oklahoma are located within a two-mile radius, making the Adventure District packed full of exciting events throughout the summer months. 

Learn about the old west for free at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum with Bank of America Museums on Us Weekend. This summer the first full weekend of every month is free for anyone with a bank of America ATM, credit or check card.

Also at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage museum is the prestigious Prix de West Invitational Art Show and Sale. This annual event displays more than 300 Western paintings and sculptures by the finest contemporary Western artists from around the world.  Opening weekend will be exciting with seminars, a preview reception and an awards banquet held Friday, June 11 through Sunday, June 13.  Prix De West will continue through September 6.

Take flight with Flowers in Flight at the Oklahoma City Zoo this summer. Beginning Friday, May 28, hundreds of butterflies of various species native to Oklahoma flutter inside the Pachyderm Building. This annual exhibit is open Sunday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., weather permitting.

There’s tons of fun for the kiddos at the OKC Zoo including Wild Tuesdays Storytime Safaris. Every Tuesday in June and July, children ages 11 and under will be greeted by a zookeeper or naturalist, enjoy craft activities and fascinating stories while quenching their thirst on a refreshing juice drink. Storytime is sponsored by the Junior League of Oklahoma City and takes place from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Judy Memorial Garden. 

Batter up at the ASA National Softball Hall of Fame stadium as players from all over competes at the NCAA Women’s College World Series June 3-9. The 5th World Cup of Softball is sure to be a good time for the family July 22-26.

Summer at Remington Park is blowing up with exciting events! Rock out with music from Jagg on May 28 for HoofStock and join Remington for Quarter Horse racing on May 29. Join Remington Park for the huge Memorial Day festivities on May 31. The entire family will enjoy $1 hot dogs and soft drinks, face painting, train rides, an extreme animal zoo and a ton more. Adults will enjoy $1 beer, big cash giveaways all day and free play for visitors with a military I.D. Live racing starts at 1:30 p.m.

Stop at the Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum where children can learn important fire safety messages on the new junior firefighters activity center while parents sit back and relax under the pavilion with plenty of picnic tables. Visit the gift shop inside for unique firefighting collectibles.

The summer is full of movie releases so take the family to Summer Movie Clubhouse at Cinemark Tinseltown Theatre. Beginning at 10 a.m. each Tuesday during June, July and August, children can enjoy a G or PG-rated movie for just $1. See all 10 movies in 10 weeks for $5. Also, watch on the big screen as the Ultimate Fighting Championship face off Saturday, June 12 in HD at Cinemark Tinseltown.

Located at the junction of I-35 and I-44 in northeast Oklahoma City, the Adventure District includes the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden, Remington Park Racing Casino, National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, ASA National Softball Hall of Fame, Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum and Cinemark Tinseltown USA. Oklahoma City’s Adventure District is supported through members and partnerships including the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum all with free parking.
