Oklahoma City’s Adventure District features outstanding summer events
OKLAHOMA CITY - This summer, visit Oklahoma City's Adventure District for a one-of-a-kind getaway that's close to home. With seven popular Oklahoma tourist attractions located within two miles, the Adventure District has a variety of options to keep those of all ages entertained throughout the summer months.
Step back in time and come face-to-face with dinosaurs at the Oklahoma City Zoo. Presented by Dr Pepper, discover Dinosaurs Unearthed and meet such prehistoric giants as Tyrannosaurus Rex. Dinosaurs Unearthed is on display through June 30 and is free with regular Zoo admission.
Also at the Zoo, catch an exciting Sea Lion Show. Show times are Wednesday through Friday at 10 a.m. and noon. Saturdays at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m., and Sundays at noon and 2 p.m. Cost is $2 for adults and $1 for kids 3-11. Children two and under are free.
Visitors looking to take in some competitive sports to keep them busy can head to the ASA National Softball Hall of Fame stadium for the NCAA Women's College World Series May 28 -June 3 and the World Cup of Softball July 16-20.
Science Museum Oklahoma features a special exhibit, SHIPWRECK! Pirates & Treasure on display through May 31. The exhibit includes a combination of hands-on exhibits and interactive media where visitors can experience the thrill of being a shipwreck explorer. Discover pirate stories and shipwreck treasures, including gold, silver and priceless artifacts.
The newest exhibit at Science Museum Oklahoma is Deadly Medicine: Creating the Master Race, a traveling exhibit from the United State Holocaust Memorial Museum. Through July 5, this landmark exhibit will challenge Science Museum Oklahoma visitors to connect the past to the present, and, as a result, to become more responsible and responsive human beings.
At the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, celebrate the National Day of the American Cowboy July 25 or stroll through nearly 300 works of art by the finest contemporary Western artists in the Prix de West Invitation Art Exhibition beginning June 12.
For those heading to the Adventure District early this summer, don't miss the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum's Chuck Wagon Gathering and Children's Cowboy festival May 23-24. Enjoy family entertainment while authentic chuck wagon crews prepare delicious cowboy favorites, like biscuits and stew, beans and cobblers.
The excitement of live Quarter Horse racing is happening at Remington Park Racing Casino every Thursday through Sunday until May 31. Visitors can also enjoy simulcast racing every day of the year and try their luck in Remington Park's casino when taking a break from watching the horses race. Thoroughbred's will begin running the track in August.
Take the kids to a Summer Movie Clubhouse at Cinemark Tinseltown Theatre. Beginning at 10 a.m. each Tuesday during June, July and August, children can enjoy a G or PG-rated movie for just $1. See all 10 movies in 10 weeks for $5.
Stop at the Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum where children can learn important fire safety messages on the new junior firefighters activity center while parents sit back and relax under the pavilion with plenty of picnic tables. Visit the gift shop inside for unique firefighting collectibles.
Located at the junction of I-35 and I-44 in northeast Oklahoma City, the Adventure District includes seven choice attractions in one central location.
