Oklahoma City's Adventure District Presents Fall Events

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City’s Adventure District provides a variety of entertainment opportunities all within a two-mile radius.

Through Nov. 7, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum offers free admission each Wednesday during Wide-Open Wednesdays sponsored by Ford and Oklahoma Ford Dealers. 

Cinemark Tinseltown USA will commemorate the 25th anniversary of “Poltergeist” with a special showing Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m.  The supernatural horror film, originally released in 1982, is one of Steven Spielberg’s earliest successes as a producer.

Oklahomans observe National Fire Prevention Week Oct. 7 through 13 by visiting the Oklahoma State Firefighters Museum and Memorial.  Visitors learn about the history of firefighting, and since the museum is operated by firefighters, visitors have the opportunity to meet a real firefighter. 

The National Softball Hall of Fame is the site for championship high school softball, with the state championship for Classes B through 4A Oct. 4 through 6 and Class 5A and 6A championship Oct. 11 through 13.

The state’s biggest Halloween celebration happens at the Oklahoma City Zoo Oct. 26 through 31.  Haunt the Zoo for Halloween offers trick-or-treaters six nights to collect goodies from 21 themed booths in the midst of hundreds of jack-o-lanterns and kid-friendly entertainment.  Admission is $6 at the gate or $5 for pre-purchased tickets.

Thoroughbred racing season continues each weekend at Remington Park Racing Casino.  The $300,000 Centennial Oklahoma Derby, presented by The Oklahoman, takes place Sunday, Oct. 21.  The race culminates four days of activities including the Oklahoma Couch Potato Derby, College Toga Night and soccer relays.

Omniplex, Science Museum Oklahoma celebrates Oklahomans and their influence in the aviation and space industries during the Oklahoma Aviation and Space Hall of Fame – Centennial Celebration Oct. 17.  In conjunction with the Hall of Fame event, Omniplex will unveil the first phase of its new space exhibit, which will allow visitors a glimpse into the development of the space program and life as an astronaut.
