Traditional Cowboy Arts Association Workshop: Introduction to Blacksmithing

Capron Bits and Spurs, Christoval, Texas

In conjunction with the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association (TCAA), this workshop will introduce tools used in blacksmithing and their function. Tools, including chisels and punches, will be created using principles of blacksmithing and can be utilized in the bit and spur making process. The culminating project, a set of tongs, will be constructed exercising the techniques taught. Bit and spur making, as it relates to the principles learned, will be addressed to enhance the participants’ skill set.

Limited enrollment. This workshop is suitable for beginner to expert.

Instructor: Sam Gooding, CJF, is an accomplished tool-maker having provided advanced training and clinics throughout his career.

$680, $600 for Museum members. Lunch available for an additional $15/day.

Workshop will be held in Christoval, Texas, at Capron Bits and Spurs shop.
