ABOUT THE EVENT

Is your youngster wild about reading? Make plans to attend Read Across Oklahoma, a literacy event that aims to inspire early learners! Hundreds of children will gather at the OKC Zoo to celebrate literacy and hear Oklahoma author, Dennis Mathew, read from his book, My WILD First Day of School which is the inspiration for this year’s Read Across Oklahoma theme: WILD About Reading! Event maps and itineraries will be available in the Global Plaza. Event goers will enjoy participating in a variety of hands-on activities setup in and the Children’s Zoo. Plus, the first 1,000 children to the attend will receive a free book. Book giveaway will take place in the Zoo’s entry plaza. Event activities are free with Zoo admission. Read Across Oklahoma is part of the statewide initiative coordinated by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries. This program promotes literacy and helps build the foundation for a lifetime of learning, specifically targeting preschool children who may be at risk for low literacy. All event activities are free with general Zoo admission. Learn more at libraries.ok.gov/read
